Sports Premium Funding
At Long Sutton we strongly value the far reaching benefits that participation in physical education brings. Increased awareness and involvement in sport promotes physical fitness, wellbeing, social skills, team work and self esteem. Each class receives two sessions of PE each week, one of which is led by our class teachers and the other in partnership with our sport coach from ‘Premier Sport’. In addition we provide a wide range of additional opportunities and extracurricular clubs. As a school we have made efforts to increase the profile of sport and improve the quality and range of our provision. This is reflected in our increased participation in inter-school competition, improved performances against other schools and an increased uptake in clubs. The children are encouraged to get involved to the curriculum and are able to apply to be a PE leader in Year 6. Through our membership of NEHAVS (North East Hampshire Association of Village Schools) we also take part in interschool competitions in tag rugby, rounder’s and athletics.
The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Our Sports Premium Funding report for 2017/18 will be published in january 2018.
