Welcome to Saulgrove Class - 2022/23
We are Saulgrove Class - Year 3 and 4
On a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we are taught by Mrs Chevallier. On a Thursday and Friday, we are taught by Mrs Cameron
Mr Adame is our LSA who work with us every morning.
Miss McCluskey covers the class during the teachers PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) time.
PE and Games:
We have PE on Wednesday and either Thursday or Friday (Thursday for the first half term of autumn and summer only. Every other half term it will be on a Friday). All children need to come to school in their SCHOOL PE KIT on these days. Please ensure on Thursday/Friday they have a change of footwear in a plastic bag to help minimise mud being brought back into the classroom.
Please could you ensure your child has the necessary equipment required in class, and that it is regularly replenished. Suggestions include: writing and colouring pencils, a rubber, sharpener (preferably with a container for the sharpenings), glue stick, ruler and scissors. We do also sometimes use highlighters and felt tip pens, but these are not essential.
Their pencil case must fit in their school tray.
Please ensure you have updated the Teams app
Your child is set Maths and English homework every week. It is all on the 'Homework' channel, in 'Files'. Each week, the home work is in a different folder that is clearly labelled.
All logins are stuck inside the covers of your child's orange Reading Journal. We suggest you take a photo of these on your phone at the start of the year.
Remember that regular reading at home is vital - this includes talking about the book, which helps expand vocbulary and check understanding.
Year 4 Multiplication Table Check:
In the summer term, all year 4 children sit a statutory Multiplication Tables check. More information to follow on this.
Meet and Greet 2022
If you are having to stay at home, please note that we will get a programme of study out to you on the SECOND DAY.
On the first day, please work on the following:
Times Tables - W/Th/F/M, your child should know which tables we are focusing on for the week. Please ensure that they can answer both multiplication AND division number bond questions with equal ease and speed. (Ideally, instantly). Your child will have an EdShed login (found in orange journal) where they can access MathsShed - a site full of Maths games.
If your isolation is having to start on a Tuesday, please work on those times tables where your child is weakest. For extra challenge, particularly year 5 children, please ensure that they can move up and down in 15s and in 25s. The latter is particularly important when it comes to Fractions, Percentages and Decimals, which comprises a large chunk of the Y5/6 curriculum later in the year.
Spellings - T/W/Th/F, your child will have brought the weekly spellings home in their homework books on the Monday night. Please focus on them and ensure that your child can spell them accurately on their own, and in a context sentence. Your child will have an EdShed login (found in orange journal) where they can access SpellingShed - a fun way to practice.
If your isolation is having to start on a Monday, please work on the previous week's spellings and if there is a distinct pattern, then ensure that your child can use the pattern equally well in other words.
Reading - Ensure that your child is reading fluently and understands exactly what is happening in the text of their reading books. Expression is vital to ensure good comprehension, so please encourage 'over the top' use of intonation at all times. There are suggested questions you can ask your child about their reading in their orange journal. Children will also have a log-in for Reading Eggs, which gives access to reading materials and activities at their level
Maths - Go on to www.myminimaths.co.uk for year 3 or year 4 check the timetable to determine which mathematical concept they are learning this week, and give them access to the appropriate pages.
Alterantively, go onto www.mymaths.co.uk (individual login in orange journals) and find the appropriate area on the left hand menu, then select the appropriate year group for your child. Select a lesson that fits the Maths Timestable.
All children also have a login for Purple Mash. Passwords are in orange books. Make sure you are on the Long Sutton page for log in (RG29). Check the 'To Do' list to see what is set.
