Applications & Admissions
Children start school (Reception Year) in the September following their 4th birthday.
Our transition arrangements are designed to ensure a successful start to school for all children from the September after they turn 4, however we are happy to discuss flexible approaches, if parents feel this is in the best interests of their child. An application for a school place at any other time, in any year group, is referred to as an ‘in-year application.’
Applying for a school place is a straightforward, online process. All applications for a school place, whether for starting school in Reception (September) or for an in-year application, should be made via Hampshire County Council: https://www.hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/admissions. If you require any support with making an application, please contact the school office, who will be more than happy to help.
All applications for Reception (September start) are handled directly by Hampshire County Council. Exact dates vary year on year but approximate timings are:
October & November: School Open Days for families of Reception children
Early November to Mid-January: Application window
Mid-April: Notification of school places (notification comes directly from Hampshire County Council)
Summer Term: following the firm offer of a place from Hampshire County Council, the school takes over all transition arrangements, ready for starting school in September.
Late applications (after the closing date but before the September start) cannot be avoided in some circumstances. Late applications continue to be handled directly by the Hampshire County Council up until the September when a child is due to start in Reception. Full guidance on late applications can be found via the same weblink above.
All ‘in year’ applications (Reception applications after the normal September start date plus all other year groups at any time of year) should also be made using the weblink above, however once an application has been made, the school then handles the application process and will contact parents directly to discuss next steps. Parents should note that places must be taken up within 4 ‘term time’ weeks of the offer being made.
Please refer to our admissions policy for full details on the admissions process and admissions criteria.
