Why Long Sutton?
Our school vision statement focuses on strong relationships, as we know that these are the foundation to success.
We take the time to really see and get to know every unique child in our care, focusing on their strengths as well as their individual needs, and we believe that this approach allows every child to thrive and flourish during their time with us.
We have a history of high academic achievement, but not at the expense of a full, broad and balanced curriculum. Key features of our school identity are our size (a small school), our location (a rural, village school) and our strong pastoral care and moral development (a church school).
Do take a look at our ‘Snapshot of Long Sutton’ to get a sense of our school identity and impact.
We hope that our website provides you with plenty of information about what makes Long Sutton such a great school, however the best way to find out if Long Sutton is the right school for your child is to come and visit and see the school in action. Our staff and children love to welcome visitors into our school. We hold Open Days during October / November every year, for families of children due to start in Reception the following year. In addition, we also host a Community Open Day every summer; please check the calendar or contact the school office for upcoming dates.
We are also very happy to offer individual appointments at any time during the school year; please contact the school office to make an appointment for a tour and a chat with one of our Co-Headteachers. Telephone appointments are also available for those currently living further afield. Visitors to our school frequently comment on the warm, welcoming atmosphere and how happy and friendly our children are: do come and experience it for yourselves!
Why did our current families choose Long Sutton?
When surveying and consulting with our current parent community about ‘Why Long Sutton?’ for their child, 3 key themes came through very strongly. Our Governors have summarised these for us, supported by some parent testimonials:
1. A Love of Learning
Long Sutton pupils receive a very high quality of education throughout their time at the school and the school’s academic record is excellent. A lot of time, effort and love is given to each child’s learning journey, it gives them a really good start to their school days and prepares them well for life at secondary school.
“Our children have both been treated as individuals in their learning journeys and have been offered support, care, time, development and drive to succeed by all the staff. We cannot recommend Long Sutton Primary highly enough. The time and love that the staff put into each class and pupil is clear to see.”
2. Quality of Staff
Our school is blessed with a superb staff team; in the classroom, in the office and in the senior leadership team. The teachers and learning support staff work closely together, they have a great camaraderie and there is a high retention rate and therefore continuity for the pupils. All educational needs are catered for to an exceptionally high standard.
“I love Long Sutton school and knew it was the right fit for my children because of the genuinely nurturing environment. All the staff are exceptional; their caring and supportive approach allows each child to flourish emotionally. Their fun and engaging teaching brings the curriculum alive and captures the imagination of the children. I can see my children developing a real love for learning. They are so happy at the school.”
3. A Chance to Shine
We are very lucky that our school is located within a beautiful part of the country and within a very supportive community. Our catchment includes 3 wonderful villages alongside the CofE Benefice and Odiham’s RAF base, a great secondary school in Robert May’s and a super next door neighbour in Lord Wandsworth College. We couldn’t ask for our children to have a better outdoor environment. The school strives in everything it does to give its pupils every opportunity to flourish and express themselves and the parental feedback is very positive on this.
“The thing about this school is it really truly has a heart and soul and community is at its core. Each child is given the opportunity to shine, be seen and be the very best they can be. We have found all the staff to go above and beyond every day. They are inclusive of all children and all their differing needs. We have felt fully supported by the SENCO team, class teachers, office staff and Head teacher, and recommend this wonderful local community school to everyone looking to give their child the very best start to their education journey.”
