School Lunches

Lunchtime is an important part of a child’s day at school, where they can play and socialise with their friends as well as enjoying a nutritious school dinner or their own packed lunch.

Here is some key information which we hope will be useful for parents:

  • Children can have a hot school dinners or a packed lunch brought in from home.

  • Children can have a mixture of hot school dinners and packed lunches in one week, eg. school dinners Monday, Tuesday and packed lunches the rest of the week.

  • School meals need to be ordered in advance using the Arbor App / Parent Portal. Once registered, parents will be able to view and select meals for their child as required.  These selections cannot be made or changed on Arbor on the day, so parents should make sure that they order meals in advance for their child.

  • The school menu is set by HC3S and is cooked daily at Mayhill Junior School in Odiham.  The meals are delivered to Long Sutton School ready to serve at lunchtime.  HC3S provide an option of meat, vegetarian and jacket potatoes, plus meals to suit special dietary requirements – parents should let the school office know of any dietary requirements or allergies.

  • Each morning, the school office order the exact number of meals required, generated from a report from our Arbor system.  HC3S require lunch orders by 9am, therefore if parents need to cancel or change their child’s meal, please let the school office know first thing in the morning.  It is not usually possible for HC3S staff to provide additional meals at lunchtime because the exact number of meals are delivered to school by the kitchen. The lunchtime staff have a list of which option each child has ordered for that day; meat, vegetarian or any special diets.  They are not allowed to choose a different option once they are in the hall for lunch, as this would mean children in other classes will not get what they have ordered.

  • The Hampshire School Menu changes twice a year and a copy can be viewed on the HC3S website. The menu follows a three-weekly pattern.

The school Lunchtime supervisory assistants are also part of the school Learning Support Team, which is a real advantage as they know all the children well.

The staff ensure that the children have all the help they need in the lunch hall.
